Fixed telephony is soon to be a thing of the past, as least if statistics are anything to go by. As of June 2009 9 percent of telephone consumers have a mobile subscription but no fixed telephone and the number of fixed phone subscriptions had declined by 3% in 2008. Marianne Treschow, General Directior of the Postal and Telecom Board predicts that by sometime in 2010 the number of minutes in the mobile network will outnumber the minutes in the fixed network.
The popularity of mobile broadband runs a close second with a 20% growth of subscriptions during 2008, taking the subscription numbers to close to 3.8 million, that’s over one third of the population.
