Pre-School

A child is entitled (not obliged) to attend school from the autumn term of the year in which they will turn six – while not compulsory the majority of six year olds are enrolled. This year allows a gradual transition into the more formal world of education and generally goes to the school where they will continue their compulsory education. The municipality is obliged to find places for each child who wants to move across to school and they will study for a minimum of 525 hours at no charge, which is to be integrated with an after-school activity centre or daycare.

Schools can be visited and many will have open days giving families a good chance to look around and meet the staff. Although you will be assigned to the closest school you are not required to attend it and may be interested to look around and compare schools. Your municipality will send out the necessary paperwork, probably early spring, where you will be able to confirm your interest in a place. If you are interested in another school contact them directly for an application form.
