The major cities all operate a local train or tram system between the suburbs and surrounding areas and the city centre. All towns and cities are also serviced by bus routes and often buses are the only form of public transport available. As with the national networks, local transport is normally very efficient and cost effective. Years of a social democratic government has placed high emphasis on transport being available for the people.
