In any country there tends to be a need for organisations to protect and help women and Sweden is no exception. There are a number of websites available, some have more information in English than others. All of them will direct you on to local services in your region. The most valuable ones for non-Swedes are:
Terrafem is a non-profit organisation that works for the rights of women of all ages to live in a society without the violence and abuse of men. They run Sweden's only national helpline for immigrant women of all ages. The helpline (020-52 10 10) offers support in 35 languages.
The National Organisation for Emergency Women’s Services in Sweden, ROKS as an organisation brings together the country’s emergency services for women and gives a voice to issues associated with violence against women.
There are also times when men need assistance from a crisis centre and Sweden, a land of equality, also has these available:
Manscentrum: Stockholm based centre that provides support, counseling and short-term therapy for men, and works to improve cooperation and understanding between men and women.
Manscentrum Sverige: A national organisation set up by manscentrum, gathering expertise, spreading knowledge and being a voice for men’s issues as well as supporting crisis centres for men around the country. You will find links to crisis centres around the country.
